Skin Tone¶

The fix isn't to skip it; it's to soften it. We'll blend in a touch of beige or leave warmth at the root so the color still reads cool without going flat against your complexion.

Natural Base Level¶

The darker your natural hair, the more lifting it takes to reach a clean ash. Underlying warm pigment sits inside every strand, and it reveals itself in a predictable order — red, then orange, then yellow — as you lift. To land on ashy blonde rather than brassy blonde, that pigment has to be lifted far enough to be cancelled by toner.

How to Keep Ash Blonde from Going Brassy¶

Cool tone is the first thing to leave your hair. Here's what protects it.

1. Use a purple shampoo — but not daily. Once or twice a week is plenty. Overuse can leave a dull violet cast on light ash blonde.
2. Turn the water temperature down. Hot water opens the cuticle and lets toner molecules rinse away faster.
3. Filter your shower if you can. Los Angeles water is hard, and mineral buildup pulls blonde warm and dingy over time. This is one of the most underrated fixes for anyone in the LA area.
4. Protect against UV. Sun exposure oxidizes blonde toward gold. A UV-protectant leave-in matters more here than in most climates.
